What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure performed to correct sagging breasts and reposition them higher on the chest. Over time, aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or genetic factors can cause breasts to sag. Mastopexy removes excess skin, reshapes the breast tissue, and repositions the nipple higher.

This procedure does not increase or decrease breast volume; however, it can be combined with breast augmentation or reduction if desired.

How is a Breast Lift Performed?

Breast lift surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and takes 2-3 hours. The surgeon makes incisions around the nipple, under the breast crease, or in an inverted T shape to remove excess skin and tissue. The nipple and areola are moved higher, and the breast tissue is reshaped.

After surgery, patients usually stay in the hospital for the same day or one night. Mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness may occur in the first days.
