what is the Fat Grafting
what is the Fat Grafting

Fat injection, also known as lipoinjection or fat transfer, is a plastic surgery procedure to add volume to the relevant area. Although it varies, it can be said in general that more than 1/3 of the fat injected into the problem area with the fat injection method becomes permanent. After this period, the area takes its original shape and if the fat is alive, no regression is expected. It is preferable to repeat the process over time instead of increasing the amount of fat transferred in order to increase permanence or to meet the need completely.

The success rate of fat injection varies according to various criteria such as the area where the procedure is performed, the characteristics of the surgical instruments, and where the fat to be transferred is taken. However, it can be said in general that the transfer of fat to the moving areas results in less success than the transfer of fat to the immobile areas.

The most prominent feature of lipoinjection is that it is healthy and reliable. This feature is due to the fact that the fat injected into the problem area is taken from the patient's own body. In other words, since no foreign substance is injected into the body, possible operation risks are minimized. In addition to this advantage, fat injection, like all other surgical procedures, is open to general risks.

How is Fat Injection Performed?

The first step of the fat injection process is the collection of fat from the patient's body with cannulas. Although fat is commonly taken from the abdomen or buttocks, it can also be collected from any part of the body. Collecting the fat from the areas with regional fats contributes to the maximum benefit with the procedure. The fats that are collected without decomposition and preferably in their pure form are then washed, centrifuged, etc. in the laboratory environment. It is processed and transformed into a feature that can be injected into the problem area. The processed fats are then drawn into a suitable injector and transferred to the problem area, under the skin. Since there is no need for an incision for the transfer process, there will be no scarring in the treatment area in the future. Local or sedation anesthesia is commonly preferred in the classical fat injection procedure, which takes about half an hour to 1.5 hours, but in some special cases (for example, when performing a different surgical procedure), the procedure can be performed while the patient is under general anesthesia. If the area that needs fat transfer is the face (forehead, around the eyes, between the eyebrows, above the lips, etc.), micro fat injection is preferred instead of conventional fat injection. In this process, although the process is similar to the classical fat transfer process, the fats taken from another region are obtained thin enough to pass through a small needle. The amount of injected fat is also much less compared to conventional fat injection.

In Which Areas Is Fat Injection Performed?

Fat injection is performed in order to eliminate the symptoms such as lack of volume, wrinkles, sagging, and old appearance that occur in the skin due to aging, sudden weight changes, etc. Since these symptoms can occur in any part of the body, there is no single answer to the question of which areas are fat injections made. Fat injection, which is widely applied by plastic surgeons, is a healthy technique and provides a natural appearance to the problem area; It can be applied to almost any area such as face, under eyes, cheeks, cheekbones, chin, lips, legs, chest, abdomen, vagina, penis, butt.

Purpose of application,

  • On the face: Wrinkles due to aging, etc. to eliminate the symptoms.
  • Under the eyes: To remove the existing bags.
  • On the cheeks: To obtain an aesthetic appearance by providing fullness.
  • On the cheekbones: It is to combine the bone.
  • On the chin: It is to eliminate deformities by providing fullness.
  • On the lips: To provide fullness.
  • On the legs: It is to correct the deficiencies and curvatures.
  • In breasts: To enlarge it by gaining fullness.
  • Abdomen: To have a muscular appearance.
  • In the vagina: To provide an aesthetic appearance.
  • On the penis: It is to increase the length by thickening it.
  • On the butt: It is to make it prominent by giving fullness.
  • Although fat injection can be done in different regions as mentioned, it is more effective in some regions. For example, with the application on the cheeks, better results can be obtained compared to the legs. In general, it can be said that positive results are achieved with fat injection in people who are not overweight or have low fat ratio in the problem area and in filling both the surface and deep lines.

Things to Consider Before Fat Injection Surgery

Those who want to have fat injection should first make a preliminary interview with an experienced physician. Whether you are a suitable candidate for the transaction will be determined in the evaluation to be made within the scope of this interview. In addition to the presence of adipose tissue in the interview, the past illnesses, diseases and medications also affect the decision to be taken. For patients who have enough adipose tissue in their body that can be used in the procedure and are deemed suitable for the operation, the next step can be to collect fat. If there is not enough fat tissue, different techniques (such as implants) may be used to eliminate the problem with aesthetic surgery. It is important for patients who are deemed suitable for fat transfer to stop using blood thinners at least ten days before the day of the procedure.

Things to Consider After Fat Injection Surgery

As mentioned, the fat injection process is completed in a short time. After the operation, the patient is taken to the service and kept under observation, cold compresses are applied to the relevant area at regular intervals, and if there is no problem, the patient can be discharged on the same day. It is beneficial for the patient to rest for the first few days after discharge. Although it may take longer depending on the amount of fat injected (for example, swelling in the lip area may be excessive and may not be relieved for a long time). It is normal to see swelling, redness and slight bruising in the area for the first few days. These swellings are expected to go down within a week or ten days. Starting from the 4th day, massage can be done without applying too much pressure to the area in order to relieve swelling, but heat and steam baths should be avoided. Pain may also occur in the area of the procedure during this period. It is possible to eliminate these symptoms with painkillers recommended by the physician. In addition, if the physician has recommended the use of antibiotics against a possible risk of infection, the drugs should be taken on time.

It is also very important for the patient to protect the treatment area from impacts. The impact can cause severe pain as these tissues are newly injected into the area. There is no harm in washing the patients a few days after the operation, applying moisturizing creams to the relevant area and removing the tapes placed on the injection sites. In order to avoid any complications, patients should pay attention to a healthy (salt consumption should be avoided) and regular diet, and avoid tobacco and alcohol use during the recovery period. It is recommended to consume herbal tea, not more than recommended during this period. You can find out your questions about fat injection by contacting my clinic in Istanbul.
